Peace Light Yoga
Kundalini Yoga found me several years into my Hatha yoga practice on the island of Kauai in 2008. The first experience had a profound but subtle impact on me. I wasn’t quite sure how to describe it but I wanted to keep it up. I was energized, stimulated, joy-filled, and curious. I would come to know that the indescribable quality of that first experience was elevation, elevation to a state in which I could connect with my higher self and the divinity in all of life. I was home. I kept going back for more and soon enrolled in the Aquarian Teacher training course with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa and her loving, experienced crew of trainers . Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is known as the yoga of awareness. Kundalini yoga is a technology which brings each seeker to just the right place that they need to be in their own awareness of the human experience in body, mind, and spirit. No two classes are the same, no two peoples experiences are the same. This is an energetic and physical practice that strengthens the nervous system, balances the chakras and energy channels, promotes optimal organ function, physical fitness and flexibility. A Kundalini class consists of physical postures in particular sequences called Kriyas, breath awareness, deep relaxation, and silent or chanting meditation with mudra or gentle movement. I also continue and love my Hatha and Vinyasa practice, and am a voracious consumer of the teachings of yoga. I am so grateful for the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, Sri Dharma Mittra, Yogiraj Alan Finger, Tej Kaur Khalsa, Shiva Rea, Swami Kripalu, and too many more to name here. My desire is to share the teachings and gifts of yoga and give others the space to have their own experience. Sat Nam! (Truth is your identity!)
In the new year of 2009 I followed the inspiration of fellow yogis and teachers in my Hatha practice to seek out Sri Dharma Mittra in NYC. I found my living Guru. A sweet and humble yogi with many dedicated, not to mention crazy-flexible and strong, students, more than reason led me to stay and soak up the sweetness of Dharma’s teachings on asana, psychic development, meditation, yogic lifestyle (especially compassion through vegetarianism), and equanimity. My studies in Dharma Yoga, Prana Vinyasa Flow, Kriplau Yoga, the Yogaworks method of teaching, Ayurveda, the 8 limbed path, and Kundalini Yoga, have shown me that there is one yoga, your yoga. As a teacher of Hatha Vinyasa Yoga methods I humbly bow to the lotus feet of my teachers and the Guru within each person that steps onto and off of the mat and offer the fusion of my experience so that others may have their own.
